Vignettes of animals (including the turkey and beaver), birds, ships and sea monsters decorate the map, including Antarctica, which is shown as large land mass. 9 large (and many smaller) blocks of text are within the map border, and 4 more are at sheet corners. These describe traditional beliefs concerning cosmography, astronomy, magnetism, vulcanology, among other subjects.
