The LandScan algorithm uses spatial data and imagery analysis technologies and a multi-variable dasymetric modeling approach to disaggregate census counts within an administrative boundary. Since no single population distribution model can account for the differences in spatial data availability, quality, scale, and accuracy as well as the differences in cultural settlement practices, LandScan population distribution models are tailored to match the data conditions and geographical nature of each individual country and region.
<note>Title from disk surface</note> <note>Developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory.</note> <subject authority="lcsh"> <topic>Population</topic> <geographic>Earth (Planet)</geographic> </subject> <subject authority="lcsh"> <topic>Population geography</topic> </subject> <subject authority="fast"> <topic>Population</topic> </subject> <subject authority="fast"> <topic>Population geography</topic> </subject> <classification authority="lcc">HA155 .L36 2014</classification> <subject> <cartographics> <scale>Scale not given</scale> <coordinates>W 180°--E 180°/N 84°--S 90°</coordinates> </cartographics> </subject> <originInfo> <dateCreated encoding="marc">2019</dateCreated> <place> <placeTerm authority="marccountry" type="code">mnu</placeTerm> </place> </originInfo> <originInfo eventType="publication"> <dateIssued>[2017]</dateIssued> <place> <placeTerm type="text">[Oak Ridge, Tenn.]</placeTerm> </place> <publisher>Oak Ridge National Laboratory</publisher> </originInfo> <originInfo eventType="distribution"> <dateOther type="distribution">[2017]</dateOther> <place> <placeTerm type="text">Minneapolis, MN</placeTerm> </place> <publisher>East View Information Services</publisher> </originInfo> <location> <url usage="primary display">https://purl.stanford.edu/tx300mz1197</url> </location> <location> <url displayLabel="View this collection in EarthWorks">https://earthworks.stanford.edu/catalog/stanford-tx300mz1197</url> </location> <recordInfo> <languageOfCataloging> <languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm> </languageOfCataloging> <recordContentSource authority="marcorg">UPM</recordContentSource> <descriptionStandard>rda</descriptionStandard> <recordOrigin>Converted from MARCXML to MODS version 3.7 using MARC21slim2MODS3-7_SDR_v2-7.xsl (SUL 3.7 version 2.7 20220901; LC Revision 1.140 20200717)</recordOrigin> <recordCreationDate encoding="marc">131106</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="iso8601">20140913012331.0</recordChangeDate> <recordIdentifier source="SIRSI">a13390717</recordIdentifier> </recordInfo> <accessCondition type="useAndReproduction">These data are licensed by Stanford Libraries and are available to Stanford University affiliates only.
