Map of the Transvaal with portions of the Orange Free State, Cape of Good Hope, Griqualand West, Basuto Land, Natal, Portuguese territories, boundary lines, cities and towns, African clans and tribes, kraals, the approximate line of the Keate award, goldfields and places where gold could be found, mines, specific metals and minerals, missionary stations, postal routes, post offices, the projected railway line from Delagoa Bay, main roads, tsetse fly areas, forest and thorn bush and farms (with some surnames of owners). Also indicated on the map are the routes of the following travellers: St. Vincent Whitshed Erskine (1868 and 1872); Eduard Mohr and Adolf Hübner (1869-1870); Captain James Frederic Elton (1870); Carl Mauch (1869-1871); Thomas Baines (1871-1873); Henry St. G. Osborne (1872); Dr Emil Cohen (1873); color George Pomeroy Colley (1875); John Sanderson and others; P. Hope (1873); and Joaquim de Santa Rita Montanha (1855-1856).
