This point shapefile depicts locations of biotic reports submitted with land use applications in the County of Santa Cruz, California. A biotic report is a complete biotic investigation conducted by an approved biologist from a list maintained by Santa Cruz County, including but not limited to the following: 1) Identification of the rare, endangered, threatened and unique species on the site; 2) Identification of the essential habitats of such species; and 3) Recommendations to protect species and sensitive habitats. When a project is found to have a significant effect on the environment under the provisions of Section 602 of the environmental impact guidelines, the biotic report shall be made a part of the environmental impact report. (Santa Cruz County Sensitive Habitat Protection Code Section 16.32.040). This layer is part of a collection of GIS data created for Santa Cruz County, California. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit falls under the purview of the County of Santa Cruz Information Services Department. The GIS Unit serves all County departments and external customers and provides data on land, features and people of Santa Cruz County. Santa Cruz County encompasses 4 cities and approximately 265,000 people. This coverage can be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analyses of geospatial data.
