Description:

Based on Arnold Colom’s world map from approximately 1655. California depicted with one shallow northern bay to the right of C. Mendocino. To the northwest of the island is a landmass called Nova Albion with many place names including C. Banco, Serra Nevada and again, C. Mendocino.

Eastern hemisphere cartouche repeats the title in Dutch: NIEWE WERELT CAART. Western hemisphere cartouche gives general information about the map in Latin.

Hemispheres surrounded by six figures representing, clockwise, fire, day, air, sea, night and earth.
