Title states "... with the adjoyning Territories..."(rather than "ye"). Top left inset of Indian Fort Sasquesahanok is missing and left blank. Insets on right: The Harbour of Annapolis Royal; A Map of Ye Mouth of Mississipi and Mobile Rivers. Dedicated to Ambrose Philips by G. Grierson (lower left). Inscription: Sold by Geo. Grierson Printer to the Kings Most Excellent Majesty, at the Kings Arms and two Bibles in Essex Street Dublin (lower left). Map was published as a pictorial counterclaim to offset earlier maps by the French, especially De L’Isle’s descriptions of the land west of the Appalachian mountains. “ADVERTISEMENT All within the Blew Colour of this Map, shews what is claim’d by France under the Names of LOUISIANA, MISSIS=SIPI &c. According to a French Map published at Paris with the French King’s Privelege. The Yellow colour what they allow the English. The Red, Spain. The English claim the Property of Caro=lina from Lat. 29 &c. Deg. as part of Cabot's Discoveries who set out from Bristol in 1498 at the charge of King Henry the 7th but they did not take Possession of that Country till King Charles the II’s time in 1663, who granted a Patent to divers Persons to plant all ye Terri=tories within ye North Lat. of 31 to 36 deg. and so West in a direct line to ye South Sea, which Limit line is just touched in this Map. and to avoid confusion is not continued.
