Bar scales in German miles, "miliaria geometrica," French miles and "miliaria Gallica." From his Orbis maritimus ofte zee atlas. Two decorative title cartouches. Compass rose and rhumb lines. "In this first state of the plate there is no engraved name for the large island north of the Hudson Strait. Similarly the following place names are absent: Baye d'Hudson, Mer Christiane, Golfe St. Laurence and Detroit de Belle Isle."--Kershaw, K.A., Early printed maps of Canada. Historic Maps copy has "146" in ms. in upper right-hand corner. Historic Maps Collection also has map in fourth state (HMC01.3407); in this final state of the plate, published in 1745, "Apud R & I Ottens" is added to the cartouche, there is an inset map in the top left corner, and there are a large number of smaller changes. cf.
