- Abstract
- This data layer portrays the tax parcel boundaries in San Mateo County. Lynx Technologies, Inc. compiled this data layer in 2000-2001. Lynx compiled the parcel layer from County AutoCAD drawings and Fire Run maps as well as electronic data supplied by Cities within the County. The final parcel layer was adjusted to best fit the County’s 200-scale orthophotography base. APN attribution is derived from data within the Assessor’s database. Farallon Geographics converted all data from ARC/Info coverages into Oracle Spatial. San Mateo County Assessor Department currently maintains the Parcel layer.

- APN is always a nine digit entity that indicates Assessor Book, Assessor Book Page and Block, and lot number. Some parcels in the county are owned by a homeowner's association or other common interest and therefore no single tax bill is assigned for that parcel. Instead, the value of the common parcel is dispursed among landowners within the common interest. Such parcels are denoted within the database as APN = XXXXXX999, XXXXXX998 - in sequential descending order on any one Assessor book page. Therefore, some parcels will be attributed as XXXXXX999. These parcels will not link to any existing data, as their respective APNs are little more than placeholders.
