- Abstract
- This data represents LiDAR elevation information for Douglas County, Wisconsin in 2016. The following derivative products are available: classified LAS, 2-foot contours, hydro breaklines, and a countywide DEM. [EagleView acquired highly accurate Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) elevation data at the USGS QL2 guidlines for the County of Douglas, Wisconsin in November 2016. This dataset represents County of Douglas, comprised of approximately 1,333 square miles. Data is in WISCRS NAD83 2011, NAVD88 Geoid12B, US survey Feet. LiDAR for this dataset was classified and quality controlled by EagleView. Products were generated by Ground Point and subsequently quality controlled by EagleView.]
- Purpose
- This data is intended for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [The purpose of this dataset is to provide a high accuracy land surface model of the Country of Douglas, WI and provide geographic products to the client. These products include a LiDAR point cloud, and hydrologic breaklines.]
- Supplemental Information
- Data is available for download from: https://web.s3.wisc.edu/wsco-wisconsinview/lidar/ Detailed, original metadata accompanying this LiDAR data is available inside the ‘Metadata’ folder from WisconsinView. Bare Earth Points: Bare earth LiDAR is digital elevation data of the terrain surface consisting of irregularly spaced points, each with x/y location coordinates and z-value. The data have been subjected to automated and manual editing to remove vegetation, buildings, and other man-made structures. Classified LAS: Point classification using semi-automated techniques on the point cloud to assign the feature type associated with each point. Lidar points can be classified into a number of categories including bare earth or ground, top of canopy, and water. The different classes are defined using numeric integer codes in the LAS files. Contours: A line through all contiguous points of equal elevation value. Contours are vector features used to represent the elevation of a landscape in a relatively familiar way. They are typically used for basemaps and general topographic representation. Derived Terrain: A vector data set composed of regularly spaced points and natural features such as ridges and breaklines. A DTM augments a DEM by including linear features of the bare-earth terrain. Hydro Breaklines: Breaklines maintain the definition of water-related features in an elevation model. They are used to capture linear discontinuities in the surface, lake shorelines, single-line drains for small rivers, and double-line drains for large rivers. Countywide Digital Elevation Model (DEM): A DEM represents the bare-Earth surface, removing all natural and built features. The dataset contains a single file covering the entire county. Tiled Digital Elevation Model (DEM): A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) represents the bare-Earth surface, removing all natural and built features. The data contains (possibly) hundreds of individual files available to download as small tiled geographic areas over the extent of an entire county. Digital Surface Model (DSM): A Digital Surface Model (DSM) captures both the natural and built/artificial features of the environment. [CONTRACTOR: EagleView]
