- This polygon data layer represents telephone exchange boundaries for Wisconsin as of November 1, 2000. The dataset was originally published by the Wisconsin Department of Administration in 2000.[his data layer is a polygon shapefile of the telephone exchange boundaries in Wisconsin, derived from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' 1:24,000 landnet coverage. This data set is referenced to the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator (WTM) projection system, North American Datum 1983 with the 1991 adjustment (NAD83/91).]
- Purpose
- This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [This data layer is for use in generalized mapping applications. The level of accuracy does not support detailed local analysis. The data layer is intended for use with GIS software.]

- [The WI-DNR's 1:24,000 landnet coverage was used as a base for selecting arcs corresponding to telephone exchange boundaries. TIGER data was used supplementally for exchange boundaries following roads, water, and other non-section line features. This data file was updated to reflect new exchange territory ownership as of November 1, 2000. A minor boundary change between Ellsworth and Prescott was also made at this time. An attribute error was corrected on 03/19/2001 (there were 2 Brussells exchanges, and no Casco exchange). This datafile, updated November 15, 2001, had minor boundary changes to the following exchanges: Verona/Middleton, Appleton/Kaukauna, Hudson/River Falls, Merton/Sussex, Thiensville/Cedarburg, and Jackson/Newburg. Tabular changes were also made to correct the name of Verizon, correct the Twin Bridge exchange number, add and calculate a square mile item, switch Frontier holding company to Citizens, and switch Chorus holding company to TDS. The update process involved converting the most current shapefile into a coverage. Boundary edits and data updates were performed on the coverage. The coverage was then converted back into a shapefile.]
