- Abstract
- This data set is a polygon shapefile representing Public Land Survey System (PLSS) townships. The data are a subset of the Wisconsin DNR's 'Landnet' database, automated from 1:24,000-scale sources.
- Purpose
- The features in the 24K Landnet database are presented for cartographic reference only and are not intended to be official or authoritative. Survey by a registered land surveyor is the only legal basis for determining actual land boundaries or locating PLSS corners.

- Description
- The 24K Landnet database was produced using workstation Arcinfo - Rev. 7, at the Wisconsin DNR Central Office in Madison, WI. ArcInfo regions were incorporated to more easily manage the various related themes. Data from cooperators were created on a variety of software and hardware platforms and converted to ArcInfo format. For a complete description of the processes used to create the 24K Landnet, refer to the '24K Landnet Process Documentation', 1996, WiDNR, which is enclosed with the metadata. Following completion of the 24K Landnet database, the DNR Geographic Services Section created a separate coverage ('twppw924') representing PLSS townships in Wisconsin. The township polygon shapefile was generated in 1998.
