HMDA data for this map is filtered by loan_purpose 1 (home purchase) and occupancy_type 1 (principal residence). Originations, denials and fallout are determined using the action_taken field: Originations 1 (loan orginated); Denials  3 (application denied); Fallout  2 (application approved but not accepted), 4 (application withdrawn by applicant), 5 (file closed for incompleteness) and added together. Derived_race and derived_ethnicity fields are used to determine race and ethnicity of applicant. Percentages for orgination, denial and fallout rates are calculated using the number of applications by tract as the denominator for each variable.
