This feature depicts the entire State Trunk Network (STN) and identifies what year highway segments are to be mowed for woody vegetation. Woody vegetation mowing is part of the rural mowing policy, WisDOT Highway Maintenance Manual (HMM) 07-05-35 Mowing. Specific guidance to the timing of mowing operations is outlined in this policy. This map identifies which highways are to be mowed for woody vegetation or brush once every three years. Every year approximately one-third of the state highways are mowed, to control the growth of woody vegetation or brush. Goal is to have all state highways to complete a second pass in a three-year cycle. The content in this feature has been digitized from paper copies from WisDOT maintenance staff in coordination with County maintenance staff. The digitizing was completed in the summer of 2021 by Bureau of Highway Maintenance. The intended audience includes WisDOT staff, County highway departments who perform maintenance activities and any entity or person interested in knowing the extents of woody vegetation mowing frequency. This data will help communicate when, where and why mowing activities are happening or not happening. This dataset was automatically cataloged from the creator's Open Data Portal. In some cases, publication year and bounding coordinates shown here may be incorrect. Additional download formats may be available on the author's website.
